The Genesis Framework operates as a parent theme where all the core functionality exists. It provides a hooks, actions, and filters for development and outputs a consistent HTML markup and a standardized style sheet from which to build your child theme. The child theme is layered on top of the parent theme, to add styling and manage the design.
Using action hooks and filter hooks the parent theme can be restructured. From the header through to the footer every building block can be added, removed or edited. This structural versatility serves well those who create custom sites and custom child themes.
The shared parent theme across Genesis sites allows the sharing of code snippets via tutorials and forums and the development and publication of plugins.Back to the Top
