6.1 – What Is A Child Theme?

A child theme is a collection of code organised into certain files and folders which extends the functionality and styling of a framework. A child theme typically includes at a minimum a screenshot, a stylesheet, a functions file and an images folder. These are grouped together into a child theme folder which is uploaded to WordPress and then activated like any other WordPress theme. In our case Genesis acts as the framework and we make our designs come to life by adding code to our child theme.
